Cape Peninsula

Continue Your Journey

Hout Bay & Chapman’s Peak

Start what is sure to be one of the most breathtaking coastal rides you’ll ever experience in style: Stop just beyond Cape Town’s city border at the quaint fishing village of Hout Bay. Here you can wander yet another beautiful beach, browse the local craft markets along the harbor, and take a short cruise to Duiker Island – home of a seal colony and seabird sanctuary. Head out from here to Chapman’s Peak for the first of many stunning coastal views that you’ll see on your way to Cape Point. Wind you way through rocky mountain cliffs that drop down to the teeming waters below. Stopping along the way for some photo opportunities and scenery of a lifetime.

Cape Point

Sitting at the tip of Table Mountain National Park, just forty minutes southwest of Cape Town, is Cape Point. This vast nature reserve is bursting with flora and fauna, and features yet another dose of stunning coastal scenery. See antelope, zebra , ostrich, baboons, and hundreds of bird species amongst a multitude of indigenous plant species, or “fynbos,” and playful rock hyrax popping out to greet you along the coastal cliffs. Take the short hike or funicular to the old lighthouse that looks out over the rough Cape waters, and be sure to walk the reserve’s stunning, wind-blown beach for a full dose of spectacular views. From every direction, beauty surrounds you at Cape Point.

Boulders Beach

At the edge of False Bay sits this white, sandy beach laden with big, round boulders and thousands of African jackass penguins. Sheltered by the rocks, the beach is as good for swimming as it is walking. While the little critters are typically easily seen on the beach, stroll along the park boardwalk for the best, closeup penguin encounters. Here, you can enjoy the birds roaming freely around you. Just be sure not to approach the birds – they are an active breeding colony, thus protective, and will bite if disturbed.
